Choosing your super investment option
Why should I choose how my super is invested?
As you move into different life stages, your attitude towards risk and investment returns may change. Consequently, it’s important to review your super investments and selecting an option that is aligned to your expectations and appetite for risk.
Australian Catholic Super offers 14 options to help you create an investment portfolio that is suitable for your needs.
If you don’t select an option, your super will be placed in the Fund’s default option, LifetimeOne.

How should I choose an investment option?
Some factors to consider include:
- Your appetite for risk
- Your goals
- Your values
- Length of time until you access the monies.
Generally speaking, the bigger the risk you are willing to take, the greater the potential return on your investments over the long run. However, there is also a higher chance that you may experience short-term market volatility that could reduce your account balance.
The younger you are, the more time you will have to ride out market volatility. Consequently, you may be more willing to invest in riskier options, which has the potential to lead to higher returns.
Conversely, a more conservative option will offer lower risk but this usually comes with lower returns over the long-term. If you’re close to retiring or have retired, you may opt for a more conservative approach as you may find that time is not on your side for your investments to recover from market downturns. You may also consider a similar approach if you’re comfortable with your current balance and wish to protect it from market volatility.
Your investment choice may be influenced by environmental, social and corporate governance considerations. In this case, you may consider Australian Catholic Super’s Socially Responsible investment option, which enables you to take a stance that aligns with your views around these issues.
